Similar Bones
Can be easily confused with the femur or thigh bone. You can tell them apart by looking at the top end: the humerus typically features a more rounded ball set on a distinct neck, whereas the femur's ball is usually larger and sits at a more pronounced angle relative to the long shaft.

In four-legged running mammals like dogs and deer, the humerus stays tucked close to the body, built primarily for forward-and-back strides. In digging animals like badgers, it becomes exceptionally wide and rugged to anchor massive arm muscles.
